Police Investigating Wenberg Street Homicide

Massey’s death underscores state delay in launching mental health response program

On October 5, 2024, at 3:49 p.m., Officers responded to a residence in the 800 block of Wenberg Street for a report of shots fired.

Upon arrival, Officers located a 42-year-old male who had sustained multiple gunshots lying near the entrance of the residence. Officers immediately rendered medical assistance until the arrival of Joliet Fire Department paramedics.

The male shooting victim was transported to Silver Cross Hospital by the Joliet Fire Department where he was pronounced deceased. Additional Officers and Detectives arrived and conducted an extensive canvass of the scene.

Spent shell casings were located nearby. No other victims were located and a motive for this shooting is still under investigation.

Detectives continue to actively investigate this shooting at this hour. Further details will be provided should they become available.
