Brent Alan Hassert, a man of remarkable achievements, passed away peacefully at his home in Plainfield, IL (formerly of Romeoville, IL) on Thursday, August 29, 2024.
He was a Member of the Illinois House of Representatives for the 85th district from 1993 until January 2009. During that time, he served as Deputy House Republican Leader under Leader Tom Cross, leaving a legacy of service and dedication to his district.
Before his time in the General Assembly, Brent was elected to the Will County Board and the Forest Preserve District of Will County in 1986, serving until 1990.
Along with serving in public office, Brent and his brother, Earl, owned Hassert Landscaping Co. After losing his re-election bid, Brent began a lobbying business in 2009 as President of Brent Hassert Consulting, where he continued to advocate in Springfield.
Brent is survived by his loving wife, Lee Ann Goodson; his sons, Justin (Kathy) Hassert, Josh (Sarah) Hassert, and bonus daughter, Alexandra (Victor) Ruikis; his brother, Earl (Paula) Hassert; and his grandchildren, Kyle (fiancée Morgan Lyon) Hassert, Jena Hassert, Colton Hassert, Carson Hassert, Aria Phoenix, Avery Ruikis, and Bailey Ruikis.
He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. The love and support of his family were a source of strength for Brent throughout his life. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Edward Hassert and Blanche Alice (Erickson) Hassert, an infant brother, Craig Alan Hassert, and his bonus son, Matthew James Goodson. As per his family’s wishes, cremation rites will be accorded.
A celebration of his life, a testament to his impact, will be held at Prairie Bluff Golf Course, 19433 Renwick Road, Crest Hill, IL on Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 1 to 5 p.m. A memorial program, led by his nephew, Derrick Hassert, will commence at 2 p.m., providing a moment for us to come together and honor his memory.
