A 17-year-old male was arrested, processed, and transported to the River Valley Justice Center for Unlawful Use of a Weapon – Machine Gun and Obstructing a Peace Officer.

On September 5, 2024, at 5:43 p.m., Officers conducted a traffic stop on a Honda Accord near North William Street and Ingalls Avenue for a suspended registration violation. At the onset of the traffic stop, two males exited the passenger side of the vehicle, ignoring commands by Officers to remain within the vehicle.

One of the males then ran from the vehicle while holding his waistband. Officers chased after this male on foot and observed him throw what appeared to be a handgun over a fence into the backyard of a nearby residence.

The male stopped running and was taken into custody without further incident and was determined to be 17 years of age. It was determined that the second male who exited the vehicle had run from the traffic stop after the first male fled from Officers. Officers were unable to locate this second male who fled.

Officers searched the yard where the 17-year-old male had thrown the handgun, and they recovered a loaded handgun that appeared to be modified with a switch device converting the weapon to fully automatic firing.

Upon search of the Honda, Officers recovered a second loaded handgun that also appeared to be modified with an automatic fire switch. This handgun was located in the area of the vehicle where the other male suspect had previously been sitting.

The driver of the vehicle, Brennan Torres-Havemann (25, Romeoville) was cited for Driving While License Suspended and Operating a Motor Vehicle when Registration Suspended, and the vehicle was towed from the scene. This case currently remains under active investigation.
