The Corn and Soybean Growers held a joint meeting on Thursday, August 15th at 7:40 led by Dave Kestel with the following members present: Larry Christiansen, Jim Robbins, Al Beseke, Darren Deutsche, George Beutel, Corey Brandau, Jeff Haas, Gary Fritz, Dale Kestel, Dave Kestel, Gordon McCoy and Mark Schneidewind, Farm Bureau manager.

Dave gave a reminder that we are not doing the harvest dinner this year and will hold one again in 2025, taking a year off. Jim said they have had about 10-12 calls asking if we were doing it again this year as well as Mark getting calls also at the office. The Bank of Manhattan has their marketing program at the American Legion New Lenox on September 4th and attendees need to call for reservations as it is a dinner at 6 pm. The ladies have a a meeting that same day 3:30 to 5:15 have a marketing for women with Britt, the guest speaker, as well at our office so have your spouse’s sign up.

Jim reported on the nutrition management program and Darren, Gordon and George also commented that the speakers were very good, the food was good, the set up worked well and we had around 57 people attend. The Corn Marketing Board has been working on aviation fuel for farmers. The ISBA is hosting a legislative update at our office on August 29th for breakfast 7:30 am and will also talk about the farm bill.

The Will County Fair is August 21-25 which is next week and they helped fill in the work schedule needed. They will also help with set up and picking up items from the office on August 20th. The Will County Fair runs August 21-25 and we will have several new items this year and more people in the tent as well from Friday – Sunday.

Jim reported on the elected officials farm tour we held August 9th and we had 32 people involved. Prairie Creek off Route 45 was a good tour as was Misti Hill Vineyard in Custer Park. The food was good!

Family Fun Night went well and JJC is booked back again for 2025. The Soil and Water Awards dinner went well as there was good weather. Chasing Cans for Cancer is a Rodeo off Klemme Road and will be held August 31- Sept 1. If you get a chance, go out and support it! The retirement party for RJ Nugent and Kevin Ardaugh from the Young Farmers Committee has been changed to September 7th (approx. 4:30 pm to midnight) and will be held at Ryan’s. Food for Thought is September 21st at Navy Pier and 3 are attending. CPR program is set for October 26th. The renewal concealed carry class is Saturday, November 23rd 9 am to noon and then there will be a 1 hour range time sign up.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:33 pm and the next meeting will not be held until January 9th, 2025.
