Women for Family Farms Meets
The Women for Family Farms Met on Thursday, July 18th with the following members present: Karen Warrick, Melissa Hack, Amy Brandau. Ashley Davis, chairman and Mark Schneidewind, Farm Bureau manager. Several were working, some on vacation and others with family plans as Ashley reported.
The minutes from the previous meeting were approved as presented and Ashley provided a reminder of the Christmas party which they have set the date now. Wreaths Across America had a meeting here at the Farm Bureau bldg. and we have our marching orders for this year’s event. Several attended the memorial wall that was in the area on July 6th. We will also be doing signs for the wreaths event and will have them done soon. While the overall goal is 37,000 wreaths some have 40,000 as the goal, which is great!
The fall women’s luncheon is set for November 13th at the Victorian Ballroom and they do not have their fall menu set yet so we can make that choice at the September meeting. We will also take a few extra minutes to do some of the center piece work at this meeting. Karen will do the pledge; Ashley is working on the schedule with Mark , Mark can do introductions and they will ask Jeanne if she can do the invocation.
We have booked Nancy for 2025 for a program on house plants, starting plants indoors and raised beds and gardens for April 6th, 2025, from 1-3:30 pm. Ashley reported on the annual meeting set for January 25th and the group will assist with raffles again. FFA will do the flag presentation. Entertainment is being discussed with the auction being online again for 2025 as we can get over 100 more to participate.
The Golf Outing for Ag Education is July 26thand the WFFF Committee has signed up to help with registration, raffles and working the golf holes. Assignments have been provided and Ashley passed out the paperwork. The raffles sales for the 2 larger items have been going ok and we will add 24 others to the tourney for the auction (ticket sales).
The Harvest dinner will be held in 2025, Christmas Cuties and Christmas pets and farm animals’ flyer was approved. They have a program with emergency services August 19th, family fun night this year was good with 266 attending and our fall flowers program is September 12th. We have order blanks ready for ordering. Karen reported on the CPR class set for October 26th and it will cost $60 per person. We will use the info she sent for making up the ad.
The retirement party for RJ and Kevin has changed to Saturday, September 7th with the location at Ryan’s place. The Threshermen show is this weekend, the nutrient management program is July 31st so sign up if you can attend. The ladies’ marketing program is set, and invites were developed, and ads will start soon. The program will feature Britt O’Connell from Ever Ag 3:30-5 pm with lite refreshments. The women wil llhelp at the elected officials farm tour. The Navy Pier event for Food for Thought is scheduled for September 21st and we have 5 from the committee attending to help. Annie Wilhelmi provided a presentation at the Food for Thought meeting about Navy Pier. There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 7:25 pm. The next meeting is set for September 19th at 6:30 pm.
