Norma Waite, 100, of Plainfield
Norma L Waite, 100, of Plainfield, passed away Thursday May 16.
She was born on December 15, 1923, in Joliet, IL, to Harold Brown and Lettie nee Smiley. Dear mother of Peggy Cross, grandmother of Kerri Cross and great grandmother of Rhiley, Angellina, and Ely Aguirre along with aunt of Rhea-joy Simonich, Clyde Brown, and Rodney Heeg, as well as many great nieces and nephews.
Norma was preceded in death by her parents, her husband of 70 years George R Waite, whom she married on February 3, 1945, at Plainfield Congregational Church; and her brother, Melvin Brown.
Norma attended Plainfield High School and was a graduate of the class of 1941. Norma spent a lifetime tending the family farm in Plainfield. She was the best farm wife around and would always have breakfast ready before the men went out to work the fields.
A lifetime member of Plainfield Congregational Church, Norma served as a Sunday school teacher and participated in multiple fundraisers. She also loved to collect chicken figurines of all different kinds. In her youth, Norma was an avid roller skater and enjoyed going on rides at the carnival with her granddaughter. Norma liked to travel with her husband, and together the two saw much of the United States.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 22, at the Plainfield Congregational UCC, 24020 W. Fraser Road, Plainfield. The burial will be at Plainfield Township Cemetery.
