Joliet Kiwanis in Aktion

Joliet Kiwanis supports Free Little Libraries throughout the greater Joliet area, including its newest one outside of Pershing Elementary School that was dedicated recently with a ribbon cutting. The new library was built by members of the Kiwanis Club’s Aktion Angels, a service leadership program that provides adults living with disabilities opportunities to give back to their communities and use their particular skills. The new library was dedicated in memory of Missy Kunze, an Aktion Angel and daughter of Aktion Chair Terry Kunze, who passed away during the past year. The Pershing Student Council collected over 500 books for the new library, which are available to the entire community. Pictured, from left, are Bev Cavanaugh, who chairs the Kiwanis library program, a couple of happy Pershing students, and John Gillmann, Kiwanis Club president. Jitters provided treats for the celebration.
