Sereda J. Perosa (nee Davis), age 82, of Manhattan, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at her niece’s home, surrounded by her loving family.

Sereda is survived by her sisters, Loretta Sartore, Viola (Jack) McKinnes, LaDonna Spurlock; nieces and nephews, Patti Cludray, Ricky (Kimberly) Yates, Tammi (fiancé William Rohde) Kestel, Kathy (Joey) Bremer, Kenneth (Chris) McKinnes, and Becky (Bret) Knol; along with numerous great- and great-great nieces and nephews.

Sereda was preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Opal (nee Emerson) Davis; her husband, Joseph (2003); great nephews, Jason and Justin Cludray; brothers-in-law, Steven Sartore and Darrell Spurlock; and nephews-in-law, Larry Cludray and Donald Kestel.

Sereda was a graduate of Anna-Jonesboro High School in Anna, Illinois. She migrated north to work at Elgin Mental Health as a secretary for several years. She moved on to be a secretary at the Joliet Arsenal, and later, gladly was transferred to the ammunition assembly line during Vietnam. Following the war, she started working for Amoco Oil. With factory experience, she was able to secure a position as a melt pour operator and eventually retired from Amoco.

Sereda married her husband later in life and opened Sunny Acres Greenhouse where they sold plants and Kewpies. She was a lifetime member of the Rose O’Neill International Kewpie Club, secretary of the Illinois Top Knotters Club and enjoyed attending the Kewpieesta every year. She was also an active member of the Will County Farm Bureau and lifetime member of the Manhattan American Legion Women’s Auxiliary Post 935.

Sereda was a lifelong member of Larkin Avenue Baptist Church of Elgin where she donated until her time of passing. Although her passion was peanut butter and marshmallow fluff, she was an avid fitness fan, regularly working out with T.O.P.S., then Curves and finally Premier Fitness. Sereda was never one to sit still, as she was always on the go. Sereda was a loving sister, aunt, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Visitation and the funeral for Sereda took place on Saturday, Feb. 3, at the Forsythe Gould Funeral Home. Interment was held at St. Joseph Cemetery, Manhattan, IL. Arrangements were entrusted to Forsythe Gould Funeral Home, 507 S. State St., Manhattan, IL 60442, 815-478-3321.
