The Women for Family Farms Committee met prior to the Fall Women’s Luncheon at 10:15 a.m. on Wednesday Nov. 14, with the following members present: Loretta Sartore, Sam Tewes, Courtney Sowa, Karen Warrick, Allyson Lintker, LuAnn Matejcak, and Mark Schneidewind, Farm Bureau manager.

The minutes from the previous meeting were approved as printed. Sam discussed the Christmas party and several added their names to the list for the December 9th event. Wreaths Across America was next, and Sam thanked Karen for her help with getting the recycling bin in place for the event. They have sent in close to $15,000 to date and we have the police escort set for December 16th. A couple of truck companies have contacted us about delivery dates. There are now over 70,000 grave sites at the Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood.

The group had set up for the fall luncheon before the meeting, and all was in place but needed help with the 25/25/50 raffle, and Karen, Sam and Courtney said they would do that during the meal end portion. Entertainers Mike and Tracy were confirmed today by Tracey. They reviewed the program and made a couple of changes on speaking parts due to illnesses of some of the committee members. They placed the nuts and candy in dishes on each table, and they were to ask each table for ideas for next year’s event.

The garden informational program is scheduled for Sunday, April 7th from 1 to 3:15 p.m. and will feature Nancy Kuhajda. The topic is pruning, pinching, and more — shaping of your plants while controlling wildlife and insects. They will talk about refreshments at their March meeting.

The Will County Farm Bureau Annual Meeting was discussed, and they will need to make a few more decorations. Catering to be done by Cucina Bella, and the event is set for Saturday, January 27. Bingo for adults and kids will be done with prizes. They will do the ice cream social again this year. FFA will assist with flags, ice cream and bingo. There are 3 raffles in place: a booze wheel barrel, a PlayStation 5, and Afghan made by Loretta. They will fill worker spaces at the next meeting.

The truck regulations meeting is set for February 28 at 6 p.m. with a lite meal. Christmas Cuties deadline is December 7, and the Christmas pets and farm animals’ deadline is December 7. A wine program is to be discussed, an EMT program is set for January 16 with the County. They discussed a paint program and agreed on selections, and will work on a date for April. The cost will be $30 per person, and it will be a 24×24-inch with 4 different choices available.

The group set the next meeting for January 10 at 6:30 p.m., and after this meeting, they will work on the annual meeting decorations. They will also have the election of officers for the 2024 year. The meeting was adjourned at 11:15 a.m.
