Young Farmers Committee Meets
The Young Farmers Committee met 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 22, at Austin Brown’s machine shed, with the following members present: Austin Brown, Courtney Sowa, Corey Brandau, Jarrad Mulderink, Adam Maves, Kyle Johnston, Ryan Nugent, and Mark Schneidewind, Farm Bureau manager.
The group reviewed the pedal pull circuit for the summer, starting with Family Fun Night on July 13th; Threshermen’s Show on July 22nd, Will County Fair on August 26th, Symerton Homecoming on August 20th, Chasing Cans for Cancer on September 2nd, and Christmas in the Village at Dralle’s Chevrolet on December 9th.
They set work schedules for Family Fun night and the Threshermen’s show. Focus on Youth was judged, and the 4 winners this year are Emma Bialko, Mark Jones II, Avery Klecka and Dale Hauser. They discussed Christmas party for 2023 to be held in 2024 after Christmas and cooking for the PrimeTimers picnic on August 2nd. They made plans for the retirement party for Luke, Ryan and Corey, and the date is set and invites ready to go out the end of July.
They spent 45 minutes discussing the upcoming golf outing and reviewing where we stand, who needs to be contacted, prizes, games, workers, registration, raffles, live auction and more. Work schedules were developed. This is the 10th anniversary of this event. Also reviewed was the hole-in-one holes, beverage holes, which games we were confirmed with and long drive, closest to pin prizes and what was going into the goodie bags for each golfer and these items need to be at office by July 17th. A list of contacts was made, and Ryan thanked all for helping. He would be the emcee again in his last year as a member of the committee, and banners were discussed, as well as background on our 10 years of golfing.
They discussed the Ag Expo, and next year’s event is already set. They spent 30 minutes working on Ag Olympics which is set for Saturday July 8, with set-up at 8:30 a.m. at the Weitendorf Ag Education Center. Weigh in at 11:15 a.m., and the event starts at high noon. Will County Fair discussion was next, and they review animals needed for the petting zoo. They also reviewed the SWCD annual awards program, the legislative barn meetings, the trap shoot event set for August 12th; Harvest Dinner set for September 8th, and September 16th is the used tire collection at the Will County Fair Grounds (for farms tires as well).
The group adjourned the meeting at 8:55 p.m., and the next meeting is set for July 20th at the office to stuff the golf goodie bags.
