Mary Lewis, 98, of Channahon

Mary P. Lewis (nee Phelps), age 98, lifelong resident of Channahon, passed away on Saturday, June 24, at her late Morris residence.

Mary was born in Joliet, IL, the daughter of the late Howard and Edna (nee Cryder) Phelps. She was the beloved wife of the late Harvey Jennings Lewis and loving mother of Cynthia A. (Thomas) Manigan of Minooka, Patricia L. (Robert) Bleuer of Morris and Thomas L. (Robin) Lewis of Bend, Oregon.

Mary was the proud grandmother of Darci Serr, Nicole (Thomas) Lewis, Jeffery Bleuer, Ryan (Jenna) Bleuer and Hai-Xing Lewis, and great grandmother of Madisyn, Nicholas, Harrison and Avery Serr, Aubrie and Gabrielle Lewis and the late Owen Bleuer, Kiptyn, Zadie and Paisley Bleuer and Max, Mason and Madelyn Bleuer. She is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and many dear friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Harvey, her grandson, Owen and siblings, Norma (the late Marshall) Fulmer, Nancy Cox, William (the late Mary) Phelps and John (the late Evelyn) Phelps.

Mary was a lifelong member of the Channahon United Methodist Church. Her greatest joys in life were her family, her faith and the farm. She attended Joliet Junior College, and worked for Illinois Bell and the Joliet Stockyards for many rewarding years. She was a 4-H leader alongside her dear friend Jean Fitzer. Always with a heart to give back, Mary took on numerous leadership roles in their community.

Funeral services were held at the Channahon United Methodist Church on Friday, June 30, with Pastor Eunbae Doh officiating. Interment was at Woodlawn Memorial Park.

Preferred memorials may be directed to Channahon United Methodist Church, the 4-H foundation or the National Parkinson Foundation. Arrangements entrusted to The Maple Funeral Home.
