David Murphy, 88, of Manhattan

David H. Murphy, age 88, of Manhattan, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 14, at Lightways Hospice Home, Joliet.
Dave is survived by his devoted wife of 69 years, Marlene (nee Doyle); children Lynda (Rich) Adkins, Steve (Sheila) Murphy, Tim (Julie) Murphy; his grandchildren Reine (Tom) Walsh, Ashley (Kevin Schuler) Murphy, Brandon Murphy, Eric (Megan) Murphy, Brett (Jess McCorkle) Murphy; great grandchildren Kaelynn, Alexa, Brynn, Kinsley, Mason, Harper, and Koen; his sisters, Mary “Molly” Glog, Kay Buckman, Barbara Stover; sisters-in-law Virginia Murphy and Donna Murphy; and numerous nieces and nephews.
David was preceded in death by his parents Leo and Katherine (nee Vetter) Murphy; grandson Ryan Adkins; siblings Patrick Murphy, Jean Gaffey, Norene Brandt, Gerald Murphy, William Murphy, Leo Murphy, Joseph Murphy and George Murphy.
Dave grew up on a farm in Jackson Township where he made a lot of memories with his 11 siblings. He worked for Stepan Chemical for 38 years, retiring as a maintenance foreman in 1995. Dave was a lifetime member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and Ingalls Park A.C. He was an active member of the Manhattan Community volunteering at the Manhattan Fire Department, serving on the Manhattan Park Board and the Village Board for numerous years.
Dave was also one of the founding members of the Snow Gliders Snowmobile Club, an avid card player and gardener and he enjoyed reading the Farmers Weeks Review.
One of the family’s fondest memories is the nightly porch sits with Dave, Marlene, their family and so many neighbors. It was there they discussed anything and everything, solving the world’s problems one evening at a time. Dave was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 20, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 235 W. North St., Manhattan, for a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment was held at St. Joseph Cemetery, Manhattan.
