THAT’S A GUITAR, MAN!

The largest hand-made guitar sculpture ever created, nicknamed "Gigantar," is now part of the long history of Route 66, as it made its way to the Illinois Rock & Roll Museum on Cass Street in Downtown Joliet. Museum officials commissioned world-renowned artist Shannon (MacDonald) to create the 24-foot-tall sculpture, which was trucked from Asbury Park, N.J., to Illinois, where it was welcomed by other Route 66 stalwarts, such as the Gemini Giant at the Launching Pad in Wilmington, and the old Prison in Joliet. Rock musicians, including Rick Nielson of Cheap Trick, were scheduled to appear at a lighting ceremony on January 20. (Photos courtesy of Ron Romero/Illinois Rock & Roll Museum)
