Young Farmers Committee Meets
The Young Farmers Committee met on Monday, Nov. 21, at 7:05 pm. The meeting was led by Corey Brandau, and the group reviewed the pedal pulls held since August and looked at plans for the 2023 year.
The group provided five pedal pulls since they last met and decided to cut back on some of the pulls for the 2023 year and will only do the following: Family Fun Night, Fair, Symerton Homecoming, Chasing Cans for Cancer, Threshermen’s Show and the pull they donate and is sold at the FFA live auction. They will entertain other options and other pulls, but it will depend on help at this point. They will reach out to a friend who said he would repaint the tractors.
The last pull of the year is Christmas in the Village on December 10, with registration at 11 a.m. and the pull at noon and this will be at the Peotone High School in the hallway near the athletic room. They will do the Focus on Youth program again in 2023, and the Christmas party will be later in 2023. They will need to do a retirement party for Luke Baskerville, Ryan Nugent, and Corey Brandau in 2023. Corey mentioned to mark the date down for PrimeTimers’ picnic on August 2.
The group discussed the golf outing for 2023 and it is set for Friday, July 28, at Green Garden Country Club. Thy discussed the raffles and live auction items, as some changes are coming because of the hurricane with some of our items. They will do a Facebook hold the date mid-January. Corey mentioned that the golf tournament took home first place honors for the state young farmers activities in our membership group, and Ryan will be accepting the award in Chicago.
The Wil County Farm Bureau annual meeting is Saturday, Jan. 28, at the atrium. Ag Olympics is on hold for now as we do not have a date selected yet by Extension office. They will donate a pedal tractor pull event to the FFA auction to be held on February 26. They spent 20 minutes working on FFA trip ideas and will check on 3 places. They will hopefully have things set by the next meeting shooting for April 28th for the date which works best with FFA schedule. Harvest Dinner was very well received, and next year’s event is not set yet but things are moving forward on tentative plans.
Corey reported that the County Land Use Dept will be trying to sponsor a used tire collection sometime in 2023 around the September time frame. This is the initial plan as the county will be getting bids over the next 2 months, and then a plan will be submitted to the county board for their consideration and approval. They discussed new members joining the committee.
The next item of business was the election of officers for the 2023 year and they are as follows: Corey Brandau, President; Austin Brown, Vice President; and Jarred Mulderink Secretary/Treasurer. Corey then reported that they received the Friend of 4H award last Saturday from the Will County 4-H office at their awards night for their work and support of the 4H program.
There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 8:05 p.m., and the next meeting will be set for Thursday, Jan. 5, at 7 p.m. at the Farm Bureau office.
