Romeoville Officially Opens New Look Lake Strini

A quarry strike, pandemic, and supply chain issues may have delayed the completion of renovations to Lake Strini, but the results were worth the wait. The official ribbon cutting of the lake, which is located within the bounds of Conservation Park (524 W. Belmont), was held recently on an unseasonably warm November day.
Even those simply driving by the lake will notice the new wood boardwalk that spans the east side of the water. Aside from looking nice, the boardwalk contains exploration activities like viewing areas into the water, an oxygenation wheel, and other educational stations.
Other improvements include pathways, sunning steps, fitness stations, pier improvements, fishing and wildlife enhancements and a bike repair station. Once spring comes around, the planted pollinator gardens will become another attraction.
“Lake Strini and its views of O’Hara Woods is a stunningly beautiful place,” said Mayor John Noak. “These improvements, along with the recent playground renovations, will serve to attract more people to this location and allow them to take in the beauty of this area for themselves.”
The Lake Strini project was partially funded by an Open Space Land Acquisition Development (OSLAD) grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
