No Injuries in Plainfield Garage Fire
At approximately 10:16 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024, the Western Will County Communication Center (WESCOM) received a 911 call from a caller reporting a garage was on fire.
The first arriving Plainfield Fire Protection District fire unit arrived within five minutes of the 911 call and found all residents evacuated from the single-family home and smoke coming from the home’s attached garage. Firefighters quickly deployed a hose line and extinguished the fire that was contained to the garage.
The home was searched, ventilated, and overhaul was conducted to ensure the fire didn’t spread to other areas of the home. NICOR and Commonwealth Edison were called to the scene to secure the utilities.
The Plainfield Building Department inspected the structure and deemed it habitable. The garage sustained approximately $50,000 in damage.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation but has been deemed accidental. No firefighters or residents were injured as a result of the fire.
The Plainfield Fire Protection District was assisted on the scene by the Lockport Fire Protection District, Joliet Fire Department, and Troy Fire Protection District. Fire station coverage was provided by the Bolingbrook Fire Department, Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District, and Naperville Fire Department.
