Visitation and Aid Society of Joliet Celebrates 135 Years
The Visitation and Aid Society of Joliet is celebrating its 135th birthday, making it one of the oldest service organizations in the Will County area.
The group’s 135th Birthday Celebration will be on Saturday, September 7, 2024, at the Jacob Henry Mansion Ballroom at 15 S. Richards St. in Joliet.
The community is welcome to join them from 12 noon – 3 p.m. for a delicious luncheon. Tickets for the event are $35 and can be purchased by calling 815-462-0684, or by contacting a member of V & A.
This local women’s organization began their mission in 1889 as a small group of 8 women to assist local residents who have experienced tragic events with confidential financial assistance.
Visitation and Aid Society continues to grow their membership and expand its mission to also collaborate with other various Joliet organizations to extend its impact throughout the community.
Annually, the organization partners with the Joliet Grade School District 86 during the holiday season to provide holiday meals for more than 240 families, and more than 400 gifts, the Northern Illinois Food Bank as active project volunteers and financial contributors to various local organizations such as the National Alliance on Mental Health (NAMI), and the “We Honor Veterans” program through the Lightways Hospice & Serious Illness Care Center.
This past spring, Visitation and Aid Society joined forces with the Zonta Club of Joliet to collect gently used costume jewelry and provide the opportunity for over 450 grade school students to select two pieces of the jewelry to gift to their Moms, Grandmas, Aunts and any other caregivers for Mother’s Day.
Event and membership information is also available on the Visitation and Aid Society of Joliet Facebook page and at their website, www.visitationandaidsocietyofjoliet.com.
