Naughton Honored for Volunteerism

Linda Naughton was recognized at a recent Manhattan Village Board meeting for her 30-plus years of volunteerism and community service.
Linda’s service to Manhattan began shortly after she, Mike, and their eldest son arrived in Manhattan in 1986. She served in both St. Paul’s Preschool and Anna McDonald’s Kindergarten as a teacher’s aide, helping in classrooms, with Santa’s Corner, District 114 PTO, and other school activities.
As an active community member, she assisted the start of Manhattan’s Neighborhood Watch, coordinated food drives, and even brought her artistic talents to the Village by hand-designing three of the Village vehicle stickers in the 1990s.
As a member of Manhattan First Baptist Church (now Jackson Creek Fellowship Church), she has volunteered for her church and other churches the entire time she has lived in Manhattan. Serving as a Sunday School teacher for over 20 years, she is most passionate about encouraging and serving the youth of our community.
She served as Artistic Coordinator for the community Vacation Bible School for over 10 years as well as coordinating the Good News Club at Anna McDonald in the 1990s and early 2000s.
Her current and most comprehensive volunteer work is through the Boy Scouts of America. Linda’s involvement in the Boy Scouts, dates to the early 1990s when her three eldest boys had picked up scouting. She served as a Den Mother and volunteer through Pack 155. In 2003, when her youngest son joined Troop 155, she enrolled as an Assistant Scoutmaster.
Over the past 20 years, she has held a variety of roles at the Troop, District, and Council level. Most recently, she worked to found and charter Troop 255, which serves as the girl Troop of Scouting BSA.
Through her decades of service in Scouts, she has influenced hundreds of youth in our community.
